Flight attendant Steven Slater apparently was fed up after working for 20 years in the customer service business.
Slater was working on a flight from Pittsburgh that had landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, when he was hit on the head by a bag a passenger was pulling out early from an overhead compartment.
According to the New York Daily News, words were exchanged and Slater's reaction was to blow his top. He spewed profanity at stunned passengers, grabbed a beer and activated the plane's emergency slide, then bolted off the plane...
JetBlue reported the incident, but police did not arrive until Slater had left the scene. He was arrested at his beachfront home in the Rockaways.
Slater was reportedly smiling when police led him away in handcuffs and when he was later charged with reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
Every workplace should have an emergency escape slide. Seriously.

If you haven't been browsing under a rock for the last two days, it's likely you've been watching an impressive campaign running across Facebook, Twitter and Youtube featuring the Old Spice Guy delivering, in almost real-time, personalized messages to just about anyone that asks him a question.
In the final video, he signs off with the phrase "Silverfish hand catch." I could be reading too much into this, but I'm wondering if this was intentionally written in not only for its humorous, non-sequitur punch, but as a unique tracking phrase. It's not so easy to misspell, and googling the phrase in quotes (and paging to where repeat posts get cut off) provides a quick-and-dirty mechanism for seeing how many people have blogged about a specific detail of the campaign.
Perhaps we'll see random phrases become a part of every viral video campaign.
Calculator hairball.
An old friend found this posted on a bulletin board. Funny yet scary at the same time. Would you volunteer? (Thanks, Sara!)
My brother-in-law, who is a pharmacist, turned 40 a few weeks ago. My sister had this cake custom made for the occasion. It says:

So far, no purchase of a corvette has been made.

I'm loving ESPN's advertising campaign for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The campaign is in the form of murals with all 32 nations represented. If you haven't seen the murals yet, you should. Link

The Walker Art Center of Minneapolis is asking the public (Yes, that's YOU!) for your help!
Open Field is an experimental project of the Walker Art Center that invites the public to help transform our big, green backyard into a cultural commons. It’s a place to share experiences, interests, and talents and celebrate the creative assets and collective knowledge that abound in the Twin Cities.
We envision Open Field as a kind of intellectual, recreational, social, and artistic platform that we create with the public. We’re building an outdoor courtyard, a tool shed with equipment for relaxation and play, a weekly Drawing Club, projects with the artist collectives Red76 and Futurefarmers—two groups that are deeply engaged in the art of social engagement, collaboration, and the spirit of the commons—and a roster of conversations, workshops, and activities for all ages.
Bring your own activity, participate, or just sit and people watch. You won't want to miss out on this summer long extravaganza!
